Tech Rec Diving
Posted: Sep 02 in Dive Blog tagged by JanThere are many different purposes to diving. While some find the sport to be exciting or relaxing, others dive regularly to do research, or as part of their job. The three categories of diving are thereby broken down to accommodate these purposes, and they are recreational, commercial and scientific. However, not all recreational diving is the same. Technical diving, or Tech Rec, is a more advanced form of recreational diving.
When you think of recreational diving, you likely think of open water, exotic locations and warm sunny weather. This traditional concept of diving is more aptly described as sport diving. Many sport divers have only the basic level of diving education and equipment. Tech Rec divers are much more advanced. Technical diving is for the experienced diver that wants to experience more than the deep open water. Tech Rec allows the diver to explore environments that are far beyond the perimeters permitted by Sport diving. With Tech Rec you can truly satisfy your underwater curiosity.
Technical divers have advanced equipment, additional in-depth training, and also a great deal of under-water experience. These three aspects together help Tech Rec divers to explore the greater depths, caves and enclosed wrecks that sport divers are warned to avoid. Technical diving involves a great deal of planning. While the sport diver may jump into the water with a bare bones dive plan, Tech- Rec divers must have a well-defined plan, route and course of action. Tech Rec divers cannot allow for accidents or happenstance because the surface is often much more difficult to reach than it would be during a traditional sport dive.
Tech Rec diving is a step above traditional sport diving due to the variety of new environments that the equipment and training allow you to explore. For those experienced sport divers willing to put forth the considerable time and effort necessary to obtain the proper training and certifications, the rewards and adventure of technical diving are many.
