PADI Open Water Scuba Diver Courses

Scuba Diving TrainingOverview

If you’ve always wondered what lies beneath the surface, now’s the time to find out and add some depth to your life! Start the journey of a lifetime with Do Dive In’s Open Water Diver Course. Getting your dive certification can change your life forever!

Your first SCUBA course is the foundation upon which a lifetime of safe, fun underwater exploration is built. You don’t want to cut corners here! Your safety and enjoyment depend on the quality of the training which you receive.  Our classes are small, comprehensive and thorough.  We hate large classes–most of our classes average between 4 and 6 students, with a maximum class size of 8.    While most beginning dive courses provide their students with the “basics”, our class  combines the fun of scuba diving with a thorough education to help you become a safe, comfortable, & competent diver on top of getting your dive certification.

Learning how to dive consists of three phases: Knowledge Development, much of which, if not all, you can do in the comfort of your own home through the use of self study materials; Pool Diving, where you’ll have fun learning the real world skills of scuba diving; and Open Water training where you’ll apply the skills that you mastered in the pool.

Prior to the start of training, you’ll attend a class orientation where you will complete all the necessary course paper work, including a medical history form, and review course logistics and schedule. You will also pick up your student kit and receive your home study assignments which need to be completed prior to the first class. To finish the orientation, your instructor will conduct a brief scuba equipment orientation, and professionally fit your equipment.

Prerequisites: You must be at least 10 years old, in reasonable physical condition, and have basic swimming skills.

Provided by Student: PADI Open Water Student Kit and your own scuba quality mask, fins, snorkel and wet suit boots. Do Dive In has a wide selection of equipment to choose from at very reasonable and competitive prices.  Plus, all Do Dive Students receive a 10% student discount on all non-sale equipment purchased during their class.

Do Dive In Provides: There are no hidden costs at Do Dive In.  Your course fee includes tuition, pool fees, use of class DVD,  and use of all scuba equipment, including wet suits and dive computers, for all pool sessions and open water dives.

Our Training Guarantee

We want you to succeed!  Do Dive In provides additional classroom & pool sessions at no extra charge for any student requiring more scuba experience to reach the necessary level of comfort and competence.

You can take the course two ways:

E-Learning:

Whether you’re on the go or want to take it slow, you can complete the classroom  portion of the PADI Open Water Diver course online with PADI E-Learning. It’s a great match for your active schedule.   Click here and start scuba diving today!

Traditional Group Open Water Scuba:

Our most popular format. Great for those who can meet our regular schedule, or who prefer more personal interaction with their instructor in a traditional classroom setting. Most of our classes are held on weekends, although other schedules may be arranged depending on pool availability. The class consists of  between 8 and 10 hours of pool diving, 6-8 hours of classroom instruction, and 4 open water training dives.  A non- refundable deposit of $100 will reserve your spot in class. See our training calendar for a listing of upcoming classes.

Once in a while someone asks why we require so much pool time.  Simple: over the 4o + years we have been teaching scuba diving we have found that the more time you spend in the water learning and practicing essential skills, the more comfortable, competent and safer you will be (and the more likely you will continue diving after finishing the class). Short classes are just too rushed and give you little time to master important skills.   Our class gives you more pool time than anyone else in the area.

Private Scuba:

Create your own class and pool schedule. One-on-one instruction allows completion in a minimum amount of time while maximizing personal attention. Semi -private classes are also available.  Contact  Jan for further details at 309/692-7600.

Open Water Training Dives:

This is the last step before you become a certified scuba diver! You can complete the 4  required dives with us locally or on one of our Caribbean diving adventures. Or, if you already have a trip planned, you can complete the dives with an instructor at your destination. Included in the fee is tuition, the use of all scuba diving equipment for the dives, and one certification fee. Lake entry fees and any travel expenses are extra.

Costs:

Group classroom & pool training:

  • Traditional Course:  Tuition is $225  plus PADI Open Water Student kit ($79.95).

Dry Suit Option:

Be sure to take advantage of our Drysuit option!  Drysuits keep you warm and toasty when the water’s chilly.  There’s no reason not to enjoy your open water dives as much as possible  Drysuit divers dive more, enjoy their dives more and are warmer after the dive.

Do all your training dives using one of our DUI Dry Suits & undergarments and become drysuit certified the same weekend you do your Open Water Diver certification dives.  It’s only $200 plus book  and includes a drysuit orientation session, one pool dive with the drysuit, use of the drysuit and undergarment during all your open water dives and one additional open water dive.  Plus, you’ll be one step closer to finishing your Advanced Open Water course and earning your Master Scuba Diver Rating!
